Nasty Viruses

Have you ever gotten a trojan that you just can't get rid of on your computer? Sometimes an antivirus program will simply refuse to detect one of these, or if they do, are unable to remove them. Here's a wonderful program that I have used and has done wonders.

Make sure you run the updates before running a system scan.

Even if you don't have a blatantly obvious trojan but you feel like your system is bogged down with spyware/malware, try scanning it with one of these programs...

1. Malwarebyte's Anti-Malware [http://www.malwarebytes.org/]
2. Spybot Search and Destroy [http://www.safer-networking.org/en/home/index.html]
3. Superantispyware [http://superantispyware.com/]
4. Spyware Terminator [http://www.spywareterminator.com/]

Whenever you open a program, your computer records it in its prefetching files. Whenever you visit websites, temporary internet files are created. These files allow quicker access to these programs or websites, but over time, these files can build up and actually SLOW down instead of speeding up.

One way to clean up these junk files is to use the Windows built-in one. To access this, go to my computer, right-click your harddrive, and click 'Disk Cleanup'. Under 'More Options', you can choose to delete all but the recent system restore point. Then check the files you want to get rid of and finish the operation.

As we all know, there are usually 3rd party software that can get the job better.

Free:
1. Iobit Advanced Systemcare [http://www.iobit.com/]
3. Glarysoft Utilities [http://www.glarysoft.com/]
4. CCleaner [http://www.ccleaner.com/]

Paid:
2. Advanced Vista Optimizer [http://www.systweak.com/VistaOptimizer/]

These software programs also contain additional tools that should be used with care.

Let's face it, we download a lot of stuff just to try it out for a day or two until we totally forget about it. I admit it, I do that all the time. I see something interesting, I just feel the need to play around with it. But over time, this can cause your system to slow down drastically, especially during bootup. What used to be a speedy startup can now take minutes just for hourglass on your cursor to go away.

To remedy this, I suggest Revo Uninstaller [http://www.revouninstaller.com/]
It works like Windows 'Add/Remove Programs' except that TRULY DOES uninstall a program. Often times, the program's uninstaller will leave behind files, folders, registry files, and other things. You could manually search for all of it and delete it by hand, or you can use Revo Uninstaller. It automatically finds all the leftover files after uninstalling your program and gives you the option to delete them. In case you accidentally deleted something you needed, it creates restore points before each operation. To top things off, this piece of software is completely free.

Decrapifier

When we buy a new computer, it usually comes with pre-installed software. Well sometimes, we just don't like whats there. Not to mention that it can totally bog down system resources and take up harddrive space.

Here's a tool that can solve those problems: PC Decrapifier [http://www.pcdecrapifier.com/download]

Simply install it, follow the instructions, and you'll have that junk gone in no time.
