The second guide in my 'Optimize' series. If you're using Firefox, perfect. If you aren't, download it here.
If you've been using Firefox, please go to Tools > Clear Private Data and delete everything. This is to ensure that everything goes along smoothly.
If you have a lot of add-ons for your browser, please consider getting rid of the ones you don't need.
Now go to the address bar (where you type in the names of websites) and type "about:config" without the quotes. You will now be presented with a warning. Click "I'll be careful, I promise" and move on.
Please don't change any other settings except for the ones listed. If you do, you can seriously screw up your browser and we really don't want that.
To change these settings, copy-n-paste the first part, without the quotes, (ex. network.http.max-connections) to the Filter in the about:config page. When you do so, that single entry should pop up. Double click it to change it to the desired value.
"network.http.max-connections" to 96
"network.http.max-connections-per-server" to 32
"network.http.max-persistent-connections-per-server" to 8
"network.http.pipelining" false to true
"network.http.proxy.pipelining" false to true
"network.http.pipelining.maxrequests" 8
"network.http.pipelining.ssl" false to true
"network.http.proxy.pipelining" false to true
If you're feeling adventurous, you can download Firefox 3.5 beta 4 and apply these additional tweaks,
as well as the ones listed before.
"javascript.options.jit.chrome" false to true
This will enable Firefox's new javascript engine, Tracemonkey.
